I would have too in the same situation. Our decision had nothing to do with gender, just pure mathematics.

I remember running these sort of numbers with my wife a number of years ago and we both agreed there was no point to her getting a job just for every penny of that salary going to childcare when she could just... stay home with the kids, which she wanted to do anyway.

If you already have a 3D Printer, and you already have filament, then the cost is just the price of the electricity required to run the thing. That's preferable to many, I would imagine, than the cost to purchase them from a shop (without including transportation).
