“A Cultural History of Higher Learning” – this massive work in six volumes is today published by Bloomsbury. Spanning 2,500 years, 67 scholars chart the dynamics of higher learning across the centuries. I am glad to have contributed a chapter on the history of disciplines in the 20th century.

The second History of Knowledge Conference has come to an end. Over three intense days in Lund, around a hundred researchers have explored the history of knowledge from various perspectives.

Universitetets grundfrågor fortsätter att engagera. I går var Linda Wedlin och jag inbjudna till Karolinska Institutet för diskussion om universitetens roll i ett demokratiskt samhälle. Spänstiga samtal om kollegialitet, akademisk frihet och om vi ser framväxten av en kinesisk universitetsmodell.

New assignment: editor of Routledge’s book series “Knowledge Societies in History”. It will be truly stimulating to work with @svendupre.bsky.social as an editor of this series and thereby hopefully continue to develop the history of knowledge internationally.

För andra året anordnas sakprosafestivalen Sakli(g)t utanför Simrishamn. Liksom i fjol med ett rikt program under tre dagar. Gårdagen var bitvis varm innanför höbalarna men samtalen – om bl.a. subjektets plats i sakprosan, sakprosan på dagens bokmarknad och sakprosakritiken – håll hög kvalitet.

Today we are heading to Copenhagen to present our project on the Europeanisation of universities. Together with Maria Simonsen, Marie-Gabrielle Verbergt and Karl Haikola, I will discuss the emergence of a European space for research and higher education in the late 20th century.

Två recensioner i nya ”Historisk tidskrift” ägnas vår introduktion till kunskapshistoria respektive min bok om universitetets historia. Alltid roligt med uppskattande anmälningar, i synnerhet i en tidskrift där våra kunskapshistoriska strävanden inte alltid vunnit gillande på sistone.

I dag är det dags för en föreläsning om 1800-talets nationalism och nationella identiteter på grundkursen i historia. Efter att i många år mestadels ha undervisat på avancerad nivå och forskarutbildningen är det roligt att nu åter få träffa studenter som läser första terminen historia.

I dag är det dags för en föreläsning om 1800-talets nationalism och nationella identiteter på grundkursen i historia. Efter att i många år mestadels ha undervisat på avancerad nivå och forskarutbildningen är det roligt att nu åter få träffa studenter som läser första terminen historia.
