The last days really felt like spring is in the air! April and may are perhaps my two favourite months of the year as everything slowly comes back to life. The air is filled with the smell of flowers and the chirping of birds. What a time!

Not really a hidden spot on n the island of Madeira but one worth visiting nonetheless. It’s not always about finding new and unphotographed locations. Sometimes the classics are there for a reason!

I just returned home from an amazing trip to Madeira. We had high storm winds for the entire week, but got some of the most amazing light I have ever experienced in the island. And of course we also got some foggy goodness in Fanal.

Looking forward to spending long summer nights on the beach at home again! Although Northern Germany might not be blessed with epic landscapes I love the tranquility and subtle nature of this region more than anything else.

#Spring is around the corner and soon the forests will start to smell like wild garlic again! Gotta love #landscapephotography this time of year.

The #heather season in northern #Germany might just be my favourite time to photograph locally. I remember this morning vividly as it was one first times after starting #photography were all my planning really came together and I got the conditions I had hoped for.

Waterfalls and woodlands - what is there not to like?

I came across this gem totally unexpected and unaware of the fact that the sun would set behind the trees and light up the scene.
Talking about luck in #landscapephotography

Autumn is the time of colours! Rowan trees might not grow as tall as beech and are not as gnarly as old oak trees, neither are they as pure and pristine as silver birch trees, but they are fascinating subjects in their own right!

I try not to think in terms of good or bad light in #landscapephotography as I am convinced there is a scene or image for any type of light. But sometimes is worth getting up for #sunrise to catch the first light of the day!

We finally had a cold spell in northern Germany over the last days. The first one this winter and probably the last. It doesn’t happen as often anymore as it used to..Although we didn’t get any snow, I was able to find smaller frozen scenes like this one

Nothing beats a morning above the clouds! Inversions offer the most breathtaking opportunities for #landscapephootography
Wish I could shoot them more often!
Btw, what is your favourite weather to go out with your camera?

The #beach offers so many fantastic opportunities for intimate and abstract images. As the North Sea is not ideally suited for grand vistas I oftentimes find myself pointing the camera downwards shooting the ever changing details of the tidal zone.

‚Seeking Shelter‘ - one the many amazing compositions that can be found roaming the ancient laurel forests of #Madeira. The island is one of the most amazing places for landscape photography and one I love to return as often as possible.

Unfortunately we didn’t get any snow in the northern parts of Germany where I live, so I went through the archives to find this previously unreleased image from two years ago. This is how winter is supposed to look like!

I love images that tell a story and this certainly does. It’s a tale of the never ending circle of life. When one life comes to its end another one starts anew. Like the phoenix from the ashes.
Telling stories is the power of #photography

I was talking about shooting icons in my last post - this image was taken at the exact same spot, but tells a completely different story.
In fact this could have been taken anywhere in #Tuscany.
Shoot the icons, but be open minded for other compositions

Is shooting icons a good or a bad thing? I don’t see myself in a position to answer this question, but what I do know is that shooting them can still be a lot of fun! However, it is rather difficult to find a unique perspective though.

A morning I will never forget!
It was just a year earlier when I picked up a camera for the first time and decided to try #landscapephotography. Get up for #sunrise, shoot until #sunset and repeat.
The lack of sleep was quickly forgotten as dawn broke and the scene came to life

I hardly ever shoot #panoramic images - not because I do not like them, but because I mostly forget about that being an option when out in the field. Not in this case though!
I waited for two hours for the fog to finally lift - all worth it!

Speaking of patience in my last post, most of the time my #landscapephotography is reactive rather than preplanned. As it was the case when we went to the Alps to photograph fall colors only to realise that all colors were already gone..we adapted and got some amazing images

#Fog is quite a rare occurrence where I live. I had previsualized this shot for quite some time, but in the end it took me more than 4 years to get the right conditions. Patience and persistence definitely pays dividends in #landscapephotography!

#woodlands are by far my favourite subject to shoot (because that’s all we have here in the flat parts of northern #Germany) but occasionally I also like some good old #wideangle #landscapephotography
Had great fun experimenting with different shutter speeds and trying not to get completely soaked

While I am a big advocate for local #landscapephotography as it allows you to go out when conditions are best, there are some far away places like this ancient laurel forest that are just pure magic and too good not to visit. This image feels like an old friend welcoming me in his arms

This might be my favourite shot from the 2023 - and also one of the most difficult focus stacks ever..
Never before have I seen this place with such vibrant fall colours and probably never will again. That’s what I love about #photography. It allows you to capture once in a lifetime moments!

I hardly ever name any of my images since I am usually having trouble finding titles that resonate with me or represent the image. But back when I shot this the title ‚Souls of the Forest‘ immediately came to my mind. Just one of those #images where everything comes together #landscapephotography
