Can't really think of a better way to fight against this than a stronger union presence at the grassroot level, as a community that fosters pride in one's work. You are not here to beg for scraps, you are providing a valuable service that eventually pays for the employer's wages, too.

Here in Finland this is technically illegal, but it still happens. People are too scared to report it in fear of retaliation. Power imbalances suck.
