I live near SF and have ridden Muni many times. You have a point but not when it comes to BART which now has multiple peer systems that are automated.

Those funds would last a couple of years at least. Longer term we need to move to driverless transit to increase frequency and lower operating costs.

None. Bay Area Transit agencies waste a lot of money. We should cancel BART to San Jose and the Portal, and reprogram the funds to support operations.

Raising regressive sales taxes to as high as 11.5% (in Hayward and other Alameda County cities) is not too exciting, so I think we'll get a low key announcement tonight.

Looking at the bill language, it doesn't seem like transit is getting much of the cap and trade money.

Criticism of HSR is not just coming from the Trump Administration. The HSR Inspector General, the Peer Review Committee and the State Auditor have all found problems. Where is the legislature's credible plan for ensuring that Merced to Bakersfield goes into service by 2033?

The federal report alleges that Merced to Bakersfield can't be delivered by the end of 2033 because there's a $7 billion funding shortfall. Adding $1 billion per year of new cap and trade money starting in 2031 does not close that gap in time.

BART is going the opposite way: higher fares and stronger enforcement. Those who don't pay are more likely to engage in crime or act inconsiderately, deterring potential riders who can afford alternatives.

I remember driving into CA from out of state that September. About 40 miles from the NV/CA border, the smoke started and did not stop.

I looked at CalFire stats. 2018 and 2020 were worse than the last four years.

Deregulation Rather than Fossil Fuel Controls Needed to Fix California Insurance Market
Hundreds of insurers could then freely compete for Californians’ business, with third parties informing consumers about each company’s financial status and claims-handling behavior.
