Geology to Software to Remote sensing. Opinions and poor taste my own. He/Him. SLC-based. PhD if you care about that. This account is all dog pictures and mindless prattle.
I forgot my camera, so these are just phone pictures, but today was _really_ pretty! First snow, but fall colors still out.

Good to be back in Madison, even if it is only for one night.

Well, they moved the stadium a long haul out of town, but the views from the new Bees park are pretty cool....

Copper levitates in a strong magnetic field.... Or when there is a mystery creature of the night up in the tree in the front yard....

Looking back through vacation photos from ~15 years ago and I'm struck by how much better they are than phone photos of today. I really need to make a point of carrying a real camera on trips every time...

Well, I do promise dog pictures and mindless prattle....

Pictographs were pretty wild too. Some were figures I've seen many times, but the ones closest to the bones where definitely unusual and rather odd...

Turns out it's a well preserved ankylosaur skeleton with pictographs right beside it! I found pictures of it in several field guides (with location redacted) after I started searching. Really wild to come across it via a non-geologist! (It's way up a wash and hard to find...)

Only one person on here will recognize this, but it makes me very happy to be back in Houston, even if it's only for a few days!

A Christmas tree. Not sure what he treed, but he treed on Christmas, anyway!

I make this point a lot, but it came up today. Remember to always use continuous interpolation when displaying continuous datasets. Otherwise, people will pick oversampled data as "higher resolution" when comparing. E.g. here's the exact same data, left is nearest neighbor, right is bilinear:
