Not sure what you're doing wrong, but I've been actually playing that game and nope it has proper widescreen patches that are not stretched.

Took me a few years after beating Persona 5, but Persona 5 Royal is finally down!
Fun fact: Paid to get my save off my PS5 to continue on PC two years ago for this so I didn't have to start over on PC!
