Yes that’s true. Much of Chinese ground water is contaminated by their rapid industrialization in the late 1900s.
And tbh, China lacks many resources ecspecially areas to grow food and in a population that size, it’s certainly a concern for the regime. They are heavily dependent on imported food.

China has been after the resource rich Eastern Siberia for ages. China benefits heavily from a weakened Russia to gain better trade deals and access to Siberia. And I assume the US knows that hence using China to broker a deal. Prob China gains something from the US, probably less tariffs for help
