He's self conscious about his scar so he wears a mask, but over some time he's gets better about it and actually incorporates it into his hero suit design!

As a kid, his house got broken into and his dad got offed (whomp whomp). Trying to fight back he got slashed in the face by one of the intruders, that's where his scar comes from. That encounter made him want to become a hero.

I also think it'd be cute lore-wise if the twitter bird reincarnated into the butterfly
