JE: In other instances where a new technology brought overwhelming new capabilities, like nuclear paper, people tried to put up guardrails. EM: It's too late for that. It's moving too fast. Whatever we might do from a policy point of view won't matter. And don't forget that ChatGPT affects people's day-to-day lives in positive ways. I would be very, very angry if GPT was banned.

what studies?? are they done by the tech companies making ai? how do you define performance improvements? 20% and 40% and 80% are three wildly different numbers!!!
There hasn't been a technology with both the immediate impact and reach of generative AI. Some studies find 20 percent to 40 percent to 80 percent performance improvements through the use of AI in a variety of tasks. Steam power was able to creatd performance improvements of about 25 percent when it was introduced into factories in the early 1800s. We haven't seen anything like this before.

the fact that the israeli military knows exactly who the civil defense rescuers are and can just call them on the phone absolutely disproves any israeli govt justifications that they're targeting ""hamas rescue teams""

i'm not really sure how else to read this except as blame. the "neoliberal gender politics" here is pretty strongly associated throughout the piece with nonbinary & non medically transitioning trans people (and trans people who push back against the patholigization of "gender dysphoria" diagnosis)

this in particular i have a lot of issues with! how is asseriting a non-binary identity and socially and/or medically transitioning any more focused on "self-actualization" than binary medical transition is? how is a historical & systemic analysis of the "sex binary" individualistic??

The US was hoping to achieve air superiority over Yemen within 30 days, officials said and degrade Houthi air defense systems enough to begin a new phase focusing on ramping up intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance of senior Houthi leaders in order to target and kill them, the officials said.

ik we all know that the biden admin's """ultimatum""" was bs all along, but man, the subheader here really drives home how ridiculous the metrics are to begin with. "trucks entering Gaza" means absolutely nothing (less than nothing, given how Israel targets ppl who are trying to reach aid)
