Not feeling special on your birthday every year is tough to shake or get over. So this year I think I'll preempt it all and ask to be thoughtfully excluded. We can do cake some other time.

I'm seriously thinking about asking my coworkers to avoid giving me a cake or gifts during our annual holiday gift exchange because it just reminds me of every birthday growing up where I couldn't open gifts on my birthday in front of cousins

I don't supervise her so I don't have any sort of influence on her professional work but oh man I wish I could say something to her about cutting out the snobby exclusive stuff. It's just a turn off for me almost every day.

I think she's kind of snobby and in a way that isn't joking or a parody. Like I am the most bougie person ever and acknowledge when it shows up. She lacks that same sense of reflection and spends way too much time for my liking trying to shape the office culture to her own liking.
