I guess me and #FrightClub will find out together.

Day 12: The Defenders
For my Defenders team I went with a Venn Diagram of heroes deeply invested in protecting the innocent and characters with actual shields. And, of course, characters who don't mix

Day 12: Claire Roe
It took me a while to pick a cover to represent Miss Roe. Not because her style is so idiosyncratic (her style reminds me of Jim Mahfood- high praise!) but because her projects are so eclectic. This Buffy variant ALSO reminds me of Mignola. And I love Noir!

Day 12: Zatanna
The only comics I've read with Zatanna are Identity Crisis, and Deathstroke makes her puke her guts out in that one, so here she is looking super cute with Scarlet Witch.

Keach and Franklin and cinematographer Vincent Monton nail it.

Day 11: Jamal Campbell
Look, this Superman #10 variant features The Big Red S as a cowboy. Sorry if that doesn't punch your ticket but I think it's pretty damn cool.

Day 11: Batman
And so we move into the DC portion of the challenge. I tend to favor unconventional depictions of Bats since he's one of the most illustrated fictional characters in...ever, prolly. Here's Luke McDonnell & Bob Lewis' Bats from Suicide Squad #10. Scary as hell.

Day 11: Masters of Evil
I sure do love me some obscure #Marvel #comics villains! I dunno if these guys'd give one of Zemo's crews a run for their money but I'd love to see it go down.

Day 10: Hellfire Club Inner Circle
Other than Robert D'Acosta, whose fantastic wealth enables him to go wherever he pleases, what would these other characters be doing here? The trashy Black Tom? The down-to-earth Firestar? Magneto's daughter- that kinda tracks. I dunno!

Day 10: Sean Murphy
I suppose I've been on a '90s nostalgia kick lately, which is why when I saw this Superman Unchained #6 variant cover I knew that'd be my pick for the day. It's definitely evoking a few of the covers of that storyline while doing its own thing.

Call me weird, but my favorite Gambit moment is STILL him dunking on Wolverine.

Day 9: Fantastic Four
I thought it would be fun for Marvel's first family to reflect the diversity we see in the world around us while still somewhat sitting in the template set by Lee & Kirby back in '61. And also still be kickass.

Day 9: Sozomaika
Extremely fetching females seems to be Sozomaika's stock in trade, such as the one on this Pop Kill #1 variant cover. I think from now on whenever I see a super-hot chick walking down the street I'm going to softly exclaim "SozoMAIka!"

Day 9: Juggernaut
Like most reasonable people, I generally loathe Rob Liefeld. He's emblematic of everything wrong with '90s comics. And yet, I've never been able to completely strike this last page splash from X-Force #2 from my memory. Bingo.

Day 8: Venom
Once again, this goes right back to when I started collecting comics. Gawd, I was such an Erik Larsen fanboy. I still dig his style, of course, but it led to me reading Savage Dragon WAY longer than I should've 😂
