Hey Darren, appreciate the reply. It’s absolutely good to hear your thoughts and we are all in the same boat (possibly literally) here I think!

I am told by dozens of people all year - especially DIY/emerging artists - that they find it really useful. That pleases me. I’m equally happy to hear a dissenting opinion and treat both the same. And finally, like all lists, this is our opinion, and we all know the analogy about opinions :) Onward!

If those things make the list imperfect, then: you are correct. But if these lists pleased everyone they wouldn’t be doing their job. Music Ally endorses great work that isn’t submitted all year round: see the Behind the Campaign, Behind the Single, Sandbox case studies, & Pro Campaign Trackers.

Sometimes a nominating person leaves off the names of partners who helped make it happen or they are not entirely open about their strategy or KPIs etc. Here, we do our best to mitigate against these things but it’s a challenge that has no simple solution. We think the pros outweighs the cons.

Hi Darren, I’ve not got much to add to what Stu said but re its “problematic” nature: this is a necessarily finite, flawed end-of-year list. Lots of good stuff didn’t make the cut; we draw the line and move on. We are open about the fact that, like plenty of awards/lists, these are self-nominated.
