I play guitar and write songs and sing and fly a decrepit starship through the blinking lights. One day, I might even get back up on a stage again.

A MageSage Productions artist.
Spending a bunch of time playing this Vox SSC-33 I bought at an estate sale in the summer of '23. Finding a case that fit it was tricky, but the SKB LP-56 seems to work well. The coaxial humbucking pickups sound a lot like P90s. Loving it.

Holding down the couch in the sunny lounge at a rural east Texas studio in early January this year (2025) whereIwas playing and singing on a friend's record.
I think this was on day 2 of 3. My surgery date was about a week away.

Not shown, my throbbing fretting hand. So. Many. Guitar. Overdubs.

Photographic memory, but it's expired Polaroid instant film.

I found this book today at a used bookstore. Provides a snapshot and additional insight for a moment during the end of The Who's original career that I found fascinating.

Good news: I can play musical instruments again!

For about 5 to 10 minutes at a throw, but at least it's progress!

Being primarily a guitarist, I'll be spending my available spoons on that instrument.

"This single, as you've no doubt by now figured out, failed to chart."

Vicious.

Active instrument-level signal splitter with buffer and variable make-up gain. It's very handy for driving multiple amps or doing parallel effect pedal setups.

Farewell to my studio this summer. It's been nice having a home. Maybe someday I'll have one again.

This was a mildly trippy experience. I can easily see why the ancient world was completely freaked out by solar eclipses.

Me too.

It's been 7+ weeks now since I've been able to pick up a guitar.

I obviously had unrealistic expectations regarding how quickly I would heal from such deeply invasive surgery with so much tissue disruption.

My instruments and I are going to have one Hell of a reunion!

Protip: If you insist on keeping your drink on top of your amps or cabinets on stage, then place it in the center of a roll of gaffer tape. Actually fits Solo cups perfectly and completely prevents toppling.

Is that seat taken?
This past month has been quite a trip.
No ETA yet, though.

It's been 3 1/2 weeks since I've been able to pick up a guitar.

This is an awful feeling.

Yoy-yoy
Bow-wow

I have a Xerox box full of cassette demos dating between 2002 and 1983 I have to review and digitize the important/potentially useful bits from. The oldest is on a Peaches Records cassette labeled 'The Scorpions', but full of acoustic guitar+metronome sketches.

Might be torture.

Possibly the cruelest cut of all isn't the increasing output in my JP drain or the inflamed 10 inch row of staples up my midline.

No.

It's the fact that taco night leaves me at the mercy of someone who's stingy with my favorite ingredients!

Woe is me!

This post-surgical healing stuff is far more complicated and unpleasant past 50. In fact, it bucks.

That was quite the director's cut.
The new soundtrack was unexpected, too.

So very good to be home at last.
