I keep thinking about a 1937 photo of beachgoers at Berlin’s Wannsee—happy people enjoying themselves while, all around them, Jews were already being persecuted, and WW II just two years away. In 1942, not far from that very beach, the Endlösung (the total extermination of all Jews) was decided.

On my Lufthansa flight from the Biophysical Society Meeting in L.A. to Frankfurt, the flight screen still shows “Gulf of Mexico” 🤓. Let’s hope Lufthansa doesn’t get banned from the U.S. by an executive order!

Leonel Malacrida (@malacridalab.bsky.social) just highlighted the upcoming Gregorio Weber Meeting in his plenary talk—this time in the stunning city of Genoa. A must-attend event for anyone interested in fluorescence (and not just because I’ll be giving a talk there! 😀).

I was absolutely blown away by Luke Lavis's (@rhodamine110.bsky.social) breathtaking presentation on his monumental work in developing a vast array of new fluorescent dyes for super-resolution fluorescence microscopy. He is truly a hero of our community!

Captivating talk by Sandrine Levèque-Fort (@slfort.bsky.social) on her groundbreaking concept, ModLock. This innovative approach leverages temporal modulation of excitation patterns to extract super-resolved spatial information in fluorescence microscopy. An absolutely fascinating concept!

German Google Maps is still undecided—whether to fully comply with the American Führer or to risk its business prospects in Germany. Let’s call it Schrödinger’s Gulf.

My lovely husband Horst in front of the the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya museum (formerly the Prince of Wales Museum) in Mumbai. The museum hosts an impressive collection of Asian art going back thousand of years. Highly recommended!
