It works pretty well, but is arguably a waste of all that potentially useful resin. Still a better solution than landfill, which part of the reason the French Government are pushing it as a solution

TL:DR wind energy is great! But like anything, it isn't perfect and there are challenges to address. But banning anything doesn't do anything, working with us to build more sustainable solutions to the waste challenge is the best solution. Which clearly isn't understood by the Trump administration

Landfill is expensive and difficult, to people abandon the boat somewhere and it gently fragments and pollutes the local environment. Same problem with wind blades, just orders of magnitude larger (in size, weight, usage etc). Sorry, that turned into a bit of an essay

But bans are not the solution, actually funding and pushing for proper disposal techniques is. Because breaking down thermoset plastics is possible, just not easy. It is something we are seeing a lot in the UK with abandoned boats currently

The EU did briefly consider altering a piece of legislation which would have dramatically curtailed composites use at the beginning of this year, in part because of the lack of solutions for composites at end of life beyond landfill. Composites are an issue environmentally sadly

I realise that, you folks are going through things that I can't fully comprehend, let alone appreciate the magnitude of what folks must be feeling. I was purely curious about your specific experiences with crowd funding science. I hadn't mean to offend, I can only apologise

Oh you definitely can't use it as anything like the NIH etc. But, from the outside, like an interesting tool for getting folks interested in specific areas of science. For example, "Help me fund my survey of x coastal zone and now you're bought into this journey of understanding"

Any thoughts as to why crowdfunding is such a poor mechanism? An inherent challenge of communicating complex science and its value? Or closer to marketing to the wrong audience? I looked at it a while ago and never really got anywhere, so would be good to compare notes, if you had thoughts?
