On the subject of tidying a lingo, have you come across the 'Portuguese-Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990'?
The Wikipedia article is interesting and contains the word 'Lusophony' which is reason enough to read it IMHO.

Peregrine Worsthorne... Apart from it being a fabulous name, Peregrine means something like 'traveller' in modern usage, its roots being the same as 'pilgrim'.
