Over here in the UK we're locking up a bunch of little old white ladies as terrorists for holding up pro-Palestine signs, so, it might not help as much as you might like.

Having lived in Ann Arbor myself, do they, uh, realise they are living in Ann Arbor?!

'Are there no workhouses?'. This is /Dickens/, he absolutely is doing that, it's his thing.

As someone with some knowledge of 17th century English history I am /sure/ this will go well. (And I might add the legacy of that is also half the reason the US exists, of course)

I suspect 'tight rubber' might be involved.

My first wife was from a small (as in pop. 200) town in Hillsdale. Her parents' neighbours had a giant Confederate flag flying outside. How many of us have been scarred by the place, did it make us all turn to milhist?

'I know this, it's a Unix system!' (and despite appearances, it actually was, specifically Irix)

I can absolutely believe a Latin student in the Early Modern (so probably at least moderately well heeled) would also have one of those.

Having /any/ standing army would be a bit of an issue outside of like Beefeaters, right? this is a whole thing in 17th century Republican vs Royalist discourse, from which the US revolution flows.

I remember in the late 80s or so my dad would get his big Ordnance Survey maps out in advance on the floor and plot his route with each junction to exit at etc.

Not going to lie, Google Maps (with GPS) made a world of difference in how comfortable I was simply walking round a town I didn't know too

I wonder how this would compare to the UK? In most universities, since we don't have majors and minors, everybody in a given history class is a major in their field and indeed studying nothing else for the whole three years (but, realistically, most still won't be going on to PhDs in history).

Sororities/fraternities still exist with all of that (and at least in the case of the black ones, which is my own or rather my wife's experience, are functionally charities with a bunch of adult members not just a university thing). Being university based originally there is the class thing though.

I kind of do that with my SO. :) Alternative idea, I guess, create an account for e.g. one of your cats and use that?

This is, to be fair, the main skill some universities teach you. :)
