It's rare to go to a show where all the bands on the bill are destined for great futures. But that's what happened at Union Pool on Friday. I saw amazing sets by #TrophyWife, #BirthdayGirl, & headliner #Monobloc. Make sure you check out these up-and-coming purveyors of indie rock!

Alright, out of this shortlist of nominees, I'd pick Chubby Checker, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis, Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes to get inducted.

What's everyone's picks? #rockandrollhalloffame

“Only God Was Above Us” by Vampire Weekend – There is no denying the sheer force and songwriting prowess on display here. This album has hooks for days and twists that keeps you guessing. Listen to: "Capricorn"

“Challengers” by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross – One of the duo’s best, most high-adrenaline scores to-date, a thumping techno thrill-ride that brings across a kinetic tension of a heart-racing tennis match and all the personal drama that underlines it. Listen to: "Challengers Match Point"

“All Born Screaming” by St. Vincent – A thunderous, dark album filled with industrial grooves and corroded, propulsive funk. Every song here surprises me in a totally different way. Count this as among Annie Clark’s best works. Listen to: "Big Time Nothing"

"A Chaos of Flowers" by BIG|BRAVE - This album stomps, shudders, and rumbles like a terrifying, Lovecraftian creature – building up a foreboding, wailing yet beautiful atmosphere that draws you in like a black hole. Listen to: "theft"
May 12, 2024 at 8:05 PM
“Our Brand Could Be Your Life” by Bodega – Such a unique, sardonic take on post-punk revival. These songs feel playful and buoyant, with unexpected vocal melodies and some twists & turns. Listen to: "Webster Hall"
May 12, 2024 at 8:05 PM
“Don’t Forget Me” by Maggie Rogers – More stripped-back and emotionally-raw, but no less excellent than her last album, Rogers puts forward a deeply vulnerable performance buoyed by her great vocals. Listen to: "Don't Forget Me"

To say I've been remiss at updating BlueSky is a massive understatement! In any case, there were lots of big releases in April! While not everything lived up to the hype, quite a few records did or exceeded expectations! I listened to a ton of music as usual - check out this thread for my top picks.

“She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She” by Chelsea Wolfe – Her deep dive into industrial & electronic-tinged goth works wonders, making this her most consistently thrilling work in years.
March 6, 2024 at 4:21 AM
“Filthy Underneath” by Nadine Shah – The perfect mix of melodies and curveballs that scratch all the right parts of your brain. With every trip through these musical layers, you’ll find more & more to love.

"Forgot About Me" by Pouty - – Awesome, grungy songs that are played and sung with a sly wink. Pouty has a dynamite ear for melodies and knows how to put a clever phrase to work. A memorable debut!
March 6, 2024 at 4:20 AM
"Drop 7" by Little Simz - An excellent, deeply-layered EP that creates a cool, woozy vibe, like driving on a rainy night with the glare of cars reflecting on the windshield. You’ll want to restart it as soon as it ends.
March 6, 2024 at 4:18 AM
“What Now” by Brittany Howard - on her latest record, Howard truly goes for a kitchen-sink approach, veering from jazz to house to blues-rock and more. And she definitively excels at every angle.
March 6, 2024 at 4:17 AM
“Springs Eternal” by William Doyle – A lovely, optimistic album filled with great songwriting that also highlights Doyle's unique production skills. A sunny and warm standout in his excellent catalog.
March 6, 2024 at 4:17 AM
“Weird Faith” by Madi Diaz – Another strong release by one of the best songwriters today on matters of the heart. Over her folk melodies, she tackles all aspects of love & relationships with a deft hand.
March 6, 2024 at 4:16 AM
“Prelude to Ecstasy” by The Last Dinner Party – With a near-bulletproof collection of tunes, this band arrives in a theatrical storm that mixes a heavenly, cinematic sound with a glammy, earthy core. Check out my full review here: www.noripcord.com/reviews/musi...

Wow, February was absolutely packed with fantastic releases! From folky to furious and everything in between, there was lots to love. And the year’s just getting started! Out of all the albums I listened to, these following releases were the standouts. If you enjoy them, support the artists!

Such a beautiful concert last night by Mitski. Love her wild & wonderful reinterpretations, like the percussion & accordion take on “Happy,” the Old West saloon style of “I Don’t Smoke,” or the Grand Ole Opry revamp of “Love Me More.”
February 23, 2024 at 11:42 PM
"What an enormous room" by Torres - Consistently great across her discography, Torres stretches her sound into new corners of this enormous room, where rhythmic textures & vocals echo and guitars buzz & vibrate into the ether.
February 6, 2024 at 11:01 PM
"Letter to Self" by Sprints - My favorite album this month and an early contender for Debut of the Year. This thrilling, furious album is meant to be played loud – with fuzzed-out guitar and rising vocals that are electrifying enough to power a small city.
February 6, 2024 at 11:01 PM
"Little Rope" by Sleater-Kinney - The band’s rawest and most expressive album in 20 years – a sharp, cathartic release of pain through Corin Tucker's powerhouse vocals & Carrie Brownstein's warped guitar playing.
February 6, 2024 at 11:00 PM
"Madra" by NewDad - These songs will flow around and into you like a light breeze broken by a sharp gust of wind that pierces your core. This is a band that knows when to lay back & when to attack.
February 6, 2024 at 10:59 PM
“Big Sigh” by Marika Hackman – This album is Hackman's most complete, emotionally-healing work to-date, filled with big, excellent melodies and chill atmospherics that you'll want to explore on repeat.
