Theologian and ethicist in Scotland. Minister's husband. Baker. Librarian.
Vasily Grossman wrote this in 1959, but it captures so much of where we are today, with governments and businesses simultaneously pointing to AI as the future and devaluing the living, breathing miracle of human life via embracing increasingly authoritarian and inhumane policies.

Found this time capsule of 1930s Christian socialism when redoing call numbers at the library today. In addition to essays by Polanyi, Needham, Auden, and Niebuhr, there are pieces by John Conford and Julius Hecker who would die in the Spanish CW and Stalinist purges shortly after publication.

Just finished this listening to this history of neoliberalism. If you want to understand what theorists of the new right (often trading under the name 'postliberal') are up to, this is a good place to start, since 'liberalism' they're responding to is Hayek et al's reworking of Schmitt. 🧵

First attempt at homemade apple fritters. The recipe I found optimistically said that each of these was a slight 250 calories and that's what I'm going to believe.
