Built/sold Case Study Buddy.
Wrote converting copy for big companies.
Now, figuring out what *exactly* it is I do here.

I can only imagine the bailout package they are drawing up for themselves.

As the saying goes, privatize the profits, and socialize the losses.

We’re winning so much that Questrade is having to stagger all of my automatic notifications to tell me that every single thing I hold fell off a cliff so that I don’t do the same

I asked AI for a new green product and it nailed it first try, we are so cooked

NEW post for “Calm Dads,” my newsletter is up!

It’s about the (neuroscience supported) idea of using your trigger points to pre-empt and diffuse anger… or put more simply, stop yelling at your kids.

It’s 1 pm on a beautiful, cloudless Wednesday. I’m standing in the hallway of my basement, absolutely seething.

Fists clenched. Chest tight. Face flushed red. Mouth practically foaming.

The subject of my blind rage stands in front of me:

Ah yes. Nothing like the "Actually, open discrimination is refreshing!" take to boost your LinkedIn engagement.

Social media was a mistake.

Breaking: guy who definitely didn't do a nazi salute brings back 25-year-old 'kid' who called for a eugenics immigration policy at the ripe young age of five months ago.

Cites: too young to be responsible for comments on social media, old enough to be responsible with treasury data.

This is fine

I'm launching something to help B2Bs build + optimize customer story programs.

After 8+ years helping 350+ cos w/2,500+ stories, I saw what the top 1% (like HubSpot + Dropbox) do:

How they set strategies
Got clients on board.
Collaborated across teams
Set up SOPs/templates
Distributed content

Buy Canadian. All of this sucks.

Hi so I can’t code and despite that made a web app for playing mini sticks with my kid. You can choose teams, add initials, set period length, add/remove goals, choose overtime format, and more.

You can see it on vid here: www.loom.com/share/3a6276...

Or play with it: ministicks.replit.app

Somewhere after 2010, politicians and business folks figured out that if you do enough sketchy shit at terminal velocity nobody has any time to process it and just gives up trying

One of the simplest and best things we’ve ever done for an anxious kid is start a gratitude journal.

While we haven’t always been consistent, it’s amazing to go back and see drawings from ‘22.

And it gets the whole family focused on something positive to start the day.

When I was building Case Study Buddy, we served over 300 clients.
The top 1% of them were decidedly NOT winging it.

I boiled their secret down to a framework with 7 key pillars:

1. Cross-team collab.
Case studies are a team sport. Marketing might be responsible for driving the initiative, but

If you are overwhelmed by AI and wondering where to begin, I offer you this:

The simplest recipe for any kind of GPT, Claude Project, etc. that works is Brief + Framework + Examples = Output.

You really *can* set set these up like you'd train a junior hire.

If you're going to ask for feedback, don't ask the general public. Five people can barely agree on where to eat for lunch, and (unqualified, unspecialized) opinions do not matter.

'Liking' your page has nothing to do with how it will perform.
You’ve built two versions of your home page. You want to know which will work better.

So you ask on this site.

𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴. No one here knows.

Run the test, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 post here with the results.

Learn, then teach.

Not engagement bait.

Maybe nobody cares, but: in the past 365 days, at least 4x shops focused on customer stories have closed up or sold off; more are likely to soon.

Case Study Buddy was acquired.
Upshot was acquired.
Uplift Content closed.
SuccessKit closed (TBD on whether sold or acquired.)

Why?

A Christmas miracle: I used AI to help me locate a lost package.

I ordered some presents; the shipping got incorrectly entered as "XX Joel Drive" vs. "X0X Joel Drive."

Problem 1: "XX" Joel's house drive does not exist.
Problem 2: UPS delivered to that non-existent address and took a picture

Back in March I sold the co I thought was going to carry me to retirement (spoiler: it didn't)

A lot went right. At different points we served clients like Zoom, Shopify, HubSpot... even Facebook.

But over the months I've had to 'unclench' + reflect, some stuff I'm changing for next time:
