An attack on John Foster (Jacky Finance), then Chancellor of the Exchequer and future Speaker of the House of Commons, printed in the Volunteer's Journal by Mathew Carey on the 5 April 1784. Carey described the Irish Parliament as a 'den of thieves' and a 'receptacle of iniquity'.

Castlereagh's closing take in the final debate on the Union in February 1800:
Union will cure all ills and allow Ireland to join in the 'magnanimous empire of Great Britain'.
