Tim Walz should just say “Fine, fuck it, I’ll do the book tour too.”

After listening, I noticed the record getting caught on what I assumed was an insert..

John Lennon - Double Fantasy - released November 17, 1980. This record is a historical document. No matter what your subjective opinion of the music is, it is so attached to one thing, one moment, one disaster. However, it is a great record. It feels like John as a New Yorker being alive.

The Breeders -Head to Toe EP - released July 11, 1994. This EP destroys. Full on rock and roll! Includes a really great cover of guided by voices, shocker in gloomtown (which has a fun video) and a cover of Sebadoh’s, Freed Pig. This thing has so many memories attached to it for me.

Guided By Voices - Sandbox - September 1, 1987. This is one of my favorite GBV records. I think I’ve seen interviews where Bob said it wasn’t his favorite because it’s too pop or too clean but that’s why I love it. It has this Beatles meets R.E.M. sensibility to it that feels so good.

Throwing Muses - released September 1986. This is a perfect record. It’s a magnificent piece of art and plays like pure emotion. Every second of this record is delightful. The star on this one is Leslie Langston. Her bass on this record is absolutely amazing.

Tin Machine -Tin Machine II - September 2, 1991. Tin Machine is such a fun band. I remember the ridiculousness of this album cover being banned in America.

The Masquerade in Atlanta was my Disney World. It was three rooms heaven, hell and purgatory. They didn’t give a fuck who was playing, if it was goth fetish night in hell, the bass was coming through the wall at your show. I know there’s a new Masquerade but it isn’t the same. Photo from the AJC.

Jonny took the stage at the Masquerade in Atlanta on March 2. 1996, blew the doors off the fucking joint. I might have bought this at the merch table but I don’t remember. If I didn’t I bought it a few days later. My ticket is faded because it was probably on my wall in some college apartment.

Jonny Polonsky - Hi My Name Is Jonny - 1996 - American Recordings. What a great record! This thing is pure joy and I only have it because I saw Jonny open for Frank Black in 1996.

Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman -
Released November 4, 1968. Produced by Al De Lory, this record sounds like “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” feels. It just feels like 1968.

Mike Cooley - Too Pretty To Work - 45. A Side: Self-Destructive Zones, B Side: Get Downtown. Recorded live at The EARL in Atlanta, GA and The Melting Point in Athens, GA (2013). Just a fun record to start the day with. I mean the word “cool” is in his name.

Dead Can Dance - Garden of the Arcane Delights - August 1984. EP released on 4AD records. This reissue (2016) includes the John Peel sessions recorded November 19, 1983 and June 2, 1984. So beautiful.

Roy DeCarava (1919-2009) is a legendary artist. His photographs captured life. His art also witnessed early jazz and blues pioneers. If there is an award or accolade for photography DeCarava has received it or is due an apology for not.

Mahalia Jackson - Great Gettin’ Up Morning - Columbia Records - 1959. The joy of this record has a lot to do with Mildred Falls on piano. The cover photographer was Roy DeCarava. The back cover notes were written by John Hammond. Good morning everybody.

Pickwick, largely known for impersonator acts of the top stars of the day would also buy the rights to out of print songs. The compilations rarely provided much information about the songs or artists. If you needed more info you could write but they didn’t provide an address.

Spotlight On Ray Charles released 1962 on Design Records. A compilation released on one of Pickwick Records sub labels. Most of these songs are recordings from 1949 sessions for Swing Time Records. George Brown’s Orchestra may or may not exist but they definitely did not play on any of these tracks.
