Dangerous road users love to rocket through the school zone and designated cycling route near Legion Branch 256. When you are passing, if a cyclist can tag your vehicle with a held out paint brush, you have violated the Safe Passing Law. #EndTrafficViolence

Due to deadly road design, south bound traffic is too fast for dangerous road users attempting left hand turns off of the highway at the Haliburton Street intersection in Nanaimo, BC Canada. 2026-JAN-09

The crosswalk user barely managed to dodge a dangerous motorist at the notorious Jingle Pot, Wellington and Shenton Road intersection. Dangerous road users frequently completely ignore the yellow flashing lights that indicate that the crosswalk is in use. Please report incidents on BikeMaps.org .

Skill testing question. Why would the driver of a bicycle be safer in the vehicle lane, than where the bike is shown in the picture?

Today I was almost hit (again) by a left turning driver at Anchor Way. The motorist said they did not see me, and didn't realize there was a "new" bike lane. The driver did apologize and was willing to take suggestions on how to avoid hitting pedestrians and people cycling. bikemaps.org

With the opening of the Hecate Street to Seventh Street shared use path, our team has resumed wearing our Volunteer Park Ambassador vests. The Boxwood connector and E&N Trail extension, reduce our exposure to dangerous road users, who are triggered by the large "City of Nanaimo" on the vests.

It is always fun to participate in Nowik Bikes for Kids deliveries to CVIMS. My main task is to register the bikes with 529 Garage. As we don't currently have a partner to provide adult helmets, I gave away the helmet I won during the last GoByBikeBC week. 2025-11-15 bikesforkidsvi.ca

It is rare to not see the aftermath of dangerous road users on any of my volunteer shifts. The section of the Hwy beside Petroglyph Park is considered so dangerous that my team is not allowed to do Speed Watch there.

I have finished some more "stitched" covers on recycled lawn signs. #YourCyclingVolunteerParkAmbassadors are now doing pop-up registrations while touring active transportation routes and parks. 2025-11-23

Congratulations to Strong Towns Nanaimo for bringing the World renowned authors of Life After Cars to Nanaimo. It was fantastic to meet the authors, and to receive an autographed copy of their latest book. 2025-11-09

I was humbled to be awarded the Climate Champion Award at Nanaimo Climate Connections 2025. I accept all awards as though they are being awarded to both me and my partner Melissa Griswold. No award is possible without us working as a pair, and partnering with volunteers from many organizations.

There is a high probability that this carefully curated garbage pile is the result of the work of one of our marginalized helpers. The density of cigarette butts helps identify the collector. The posting of this picture has been delayed to protect our helper(s).

On September 11, 1973, the U.S. government supported the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Chile by a military junta. The coup resulted in a brutal dictatorship that lasted nearly 17 years, during which thousands of Chileans were killed, tortured, or disappeared. Lest we forget.

Melissa and I did some initial volunteer work for the Island Corridor Foundation today. When a full crew of volunteers tackles this section we can recommend protective gear and warn of hazards. We are happy to volunteer for projects that may lead to the expansion of multi-use trails along the E&N.

The cost for replacement wheels for our Chinese made Burley trailers have gone up dramatically, as they are shipped to us from the US. We put a lot more mileage on our e-bikes doing volunteer work, than we do on our small truck, and hence wear out tires and running parts regularly. 2025-09-08

I finally found a mask that is useful while cycling during poor air quality events. Not satisfied with the amount of harm already having been achieved, Death Worshipers are still harassing people who choose to wear masks. 2025-09-04

Our volunteer team was at the Brechin Boat ramp today promoting boating safety for ICBC. We gave out floating key chains. Some ramp users thanked us for being a calming influence. On long weekends please expect lineups, and please be patient with each other. Thank you.
