Pessimist, but trying to be hopeful.
This is the one I was looking for. On point!

I no longer believe Thiel is compatible with democracy. Take from that what you will….

I hope you also agree that mainstream Dems rarely miss a chance to show their contempt for the left, right? There’s plenty of blame to go around, and it usually makes the most sense to look to the people who actually have power within the party if you want something to change.

This is what I’m doing. My point is that the party should not actively oppose any progressive candidate. With all due respect, it is the dominant corporate wing of the party that is dividing, rather than uniting.

The problem is blaming losses on an ill-defined group left, rather than on the party. Dems maintained control for decades by truly opposing moneyed interests. They have steadily lost support since they started serving those interests. I say this as somebody whose main priority is beating Trump.

The risks that Trump posed were definitely enough to get me to vote for Harris, but I won’t deny that I did so without enthusiasm. It might be worth trying something other than “we won’t help you, but we’re better than the other guys.”

We need to demand that they are given whatever assistance is needed. And there also have to be criminal prosecutions for the people responsible for the kidnapping and abuse.
January 27, 2026 at 4:20 AM
It’s a good thing there’s no statute of limitations for this kidnapping. It won’t be soon enough, but the day will come.

The Obama administration was working against anything that would actually threaten the insurance industry from the start. Rahm Emanuel wasn’t even trying to hide it. Just like all of Obama’s progressive proposals, it was a bait and switch.

But this is so visionary and far-sighted. Our great grandchildren will see this as the moment we secured their future well-being. Right? I mean, what could go wrong??

You really need to step down.

An entirely worthless statement. Are you saying you will vote with the Rs to end the shutdown? If so, then you don’t really care about the 420,000 Pennsylvanians who depend on the tax credits. More of the horseshit we’ve come to expect from you.
October 26, 2025 at 12:44 AM
I think the Trump-as-king theme is divorced from any idea of popular support. The right knows their agenda is wildly unpopular, but they’re saying that doesn’t matter anymore. They have seized power and are keeping by divine right.

This is not about freedom of speech. Nobody is saying Kirk should not have been allowed to speak. The point is that good people should condemn intolerant positions and people.

There is so much that is so disturbing about this court, but the way they have ignored hundreds of pages of findings based on actual evidence is just flagrant lawlessness.
September 9, 2025 at 3:06 AM
Maybe there is some cartoonishly ridiculous hypothetical case, like one involving the president’s authority to have political opponents summarily executed. But even that would be a coin toss for at least five of them.
September 5, 2025 at 2:27 PM
The problem is not the fight for a perfect candidate. The problem is that party leadership won’t tolerate anything that is opposed by the donors writing big checks, even if it means alienating the people that should be a reliable base.

I just want a second way.

Exactly. We should presume good faith only until there is a reason not to. The Times forfeited any such presumption long ago.
