Franciscans eventually charged Eckhart with preaching heresy before the uneducated, endangering their souls. What did Eckhart preach? The image below is a tell all. Pope John XXII backed the inquisition, but Eckhart died in 1328 C.E. before the sentence could be pronounced. He was 68.

I would think that by 1911 the word “brute” would have lost its 18th-century meaning: one of the mindless lower sorts incapable of learning. Maybe brute is still a key, but in a new and inventive way
