Haven't posted in a while, been busy, but here's a piece I've been working on for quite some time and just finished tonight. Raku fired to get the sheen on the glaze and carbon black on the raw clay

Unintended glaze results worked out tonight. Someone swapped the labels for the clear and the white glaze, which need different temperatures, and I only noticed after the first layer on these pots. Quick direction switch with next glaze choices and I ended up with these colorful guys.

Last night's pots. 2 with good colors, 1 runny and copper due to over firing, and 1 vase that looks like its parent was an unripe watermelon

A few of the pots from last week. Some unexpected results but still pretty interesting.

Finally added the ribbon and "barbed wire" to this random experiment of a vase. Not quite what I was aiming for but not bad for a first go at the idea. Maybe next time I'll add some red glaze "blood" around the wire side, brighter color for the top, taller and more angled shape. Whatcha think?

Ever heard of a "slap koozie"? I ordered some custom ones for Ignite! burn coming up end of the month. I arted up the image for this and had them printed by imprint.com. Pretty happy with results! Took forever to figure out how to draw the ambigram for "Ignite!" & my camp: "Last Camp"

I really love that red glaze as an accent for my Raku pieces. "Oxblood Red" and it never fails to come out nice and vivid at any decent firing temperature. So I end up using it a lot. For example:

Only got one vase fired tonight but it came out pretty good. Mayco Peacock Matte Raku glaze on the outside, Spectrum Oxblood Red Raku glaze inside.

Sometimes I end up with shapes I like and I kinda don't even want to glaze them and have a chance of ruining them.

Finally reglazed and refired these bud vases. They certainly sparkle this time! Vid taken at night so light isn't great, which means they should look much better in daytime. (Obsidian & Cosmic Tea Dust)

Mmmm fresh new clean kiln shelves. Received these 26" Advancer kiln shelves the other day along with a glaze eraser. They'd been back ordered for a while.

Raku pots from last night. It seems the thin neck vase came out feeling rather Beetlejuicey.

Most of y'all probably don't know I'm involved in a land project & burgeoning intentional community in South VA on 200 acres of land we own. Collective Spaces Project. We've got a work/play weekend coming up end of March if localish folks are interested and want to check it out. Msg me for details

Womp woooooooomp.... Bud vases finished firing but the Cosmic Teadust got overridden by the Obsidian underneath. Looks like I should have put on more layers. This should kind of sparkle not just have lighter flecks. Probably going to reglaze and fire again.

I know these feels. Gonna have to just go to bed without seeing in the kiln this time. Bleh.

Currently firing these lil bud vases, made for a wedding. Waiting for the kiln to cool down, which is just about the worst part of pottery. Fingers crossed they look good tomorrow when I open the kiln. Little Loafers clay, Amaco Cosmic Tea Dust over Obsidian, cone 5.

This goblet-like vase was a near failure I managed to save. Color comes from Turquoise with a little cobalt carbonate on the bulb, Oxblood for the red, and Starry Night on the stem. The last pot isn't finished yet, as I plan to lace it with ribbon and fake barbed wire on opposing sides.

A fairly simplistic vase with sort of fingerprint inspired lines. Was a PAIN to glaze the swirls but I really like the result. The larger vase did well with the Oxblood accent stripe and though not as clear in the picture, the colors on the body turned out lovely. Peacock Matte / Copper Sand

Raku class time again! Here's some things I created recently. More in comments.
Another "Frighteners" inspired tile. The crackle did well, wish I'd sculpted more/better detail. This striped pot came out great. The red Oxblood glaze always delivers, and Peacock Matte made lovely colors.

Got an amusing random gift in the mail from a friend! I laughed very loud when I opened the package.

For anyone not "in the know", No this is not political at all, it's a somewhat inside joke related to the burn community. And, ya know... My name...

Another Mayco crystalline glaze. Also came out great. More subdued but very interesting.
December 21, 2024 at 9:32 PM
The main bowl is one of the Mayco crystalline glazes, I want to say "Galaxy" but will have to go check later. Regardless, I really like this effect and will use it again for sure.

Midnight Run over Ancient Jasper. Perhaps a bit less midnight run next time and more in streaks so the two gave more of that border effect. But I still like the outcome of this one.
