Its the doing the same thing a hater would do, consuming something despite the fact you know you mostly won't enjoy it and posting your mostly negative take online while also insisting you don't care about it

It wasn't just the gags that made season 1 work tho, it was always those moments in-between the "haha, he beat that monster in one punch." Without the attempt at fleshing out the world and characters around Saitama the joke likely wouldn't have even lasted those 12 episodes
