1/4 through the book we have Jones referring to the Bible as ‘The paper idle’...should that be "idol"?
I’m not sure if this quite qualifies as litotes (ironic understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by the negative of its contrary [e.g., you won't be sorry, meaning you'll be glad]).
