It's been an exceptionally hot + busy week. Hopefully, it's now time to cool off + relax. What better way to do that than by sitting down with the latest @currentarchaeology.bsky.social, a bit of a #Roman special including my latest column on #Cirencester #Corinium the-past.com/comment/roma...

It's a rainy Saturday so let's play a game of #archaeology I-spy. Who's in this photo and where are they? Extra points for identifying all three people. Winner gets to feel very pleased with themselves

It's a #FindsFriday @currentarchaeology.bsky.social #TOWIE spectacular! This month my column visits #Essex, specifically #Colchester. The city is stuffed full of fantastic #Roman #archaeology, including Britain's only known chariot-racing circuit the-past.com/comment/roma...

View SW from the prehistoric cliff castle at #Gunwalloe #Lizard #Cornwall for #HillfortsWednesday. The church here is mainly C15 but is named after Breton / Celtic Saint Winwaloe, likely an early Christian / pre-Christian sacred site repeatedly reused / reinterpreted over millennia

Fascinating day with colleagues from @nationaltrust.bsky.social @ #PolesdenLacey #Surrey on #climateaction. What are the impacts now; what might we see over the next 50Y; what can we do about these to ensure future generations can enjoy this magical place www.nationaltrust.org.uk/our-cause/na...

Happy 130th anniversary @nationaltrust.bsky.social. Here's a moment to make Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter and Hardwicke Rawnsley happy from #Gunwalloe #Lizard #Cornwall this bright and beautiful morning.

Six years ago this week I interviewed for my job @nationaltrust.bsky.social. I was thrilled to join the organization + remain so on our 130 anniversary + launch of our ten year strategy. It involves more people + more places than ever before. Read more here: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/o...

A lovely piece of #IronworkThursday engineering: the Old Tramway Bridge of the Wye Valley Railway at #Tintern. Because the river forms the border here it is Grade II listed by both Cadw (cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/list...) and Historic England (historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-...)

One little contribution to the #climateemergency, one little green shoot of hope. Privileged to join colleagues from across @nationaltrust.bsky.social to help plant a section of 25,000 new trees at #HintonAmpner #Hampshire to diversify farming practices and increase access to nature lnkd.in/erkXa7xb

As an added sweetener, for all of my columns for now onwards I'm providing a linked #bake: in this case, I thought some appropriately Roman-ish honey and rosemary shortbread fitted the theme: www.cotswoldxlmagazine.com/articles/rec...

As some #mondaymotivation how about this milestone: my latest column in #currentarchaeology is out and it's my 100th for them! It features fabulous @romanpalace.bsky.social @sussexpast.bsky.social #Sussex, one of my favourite places and I know of many others too: the-past.com/comment/fish...

Here's to another year full of #HillfortsWednesday moments. Because no day out that involves a hillfort is a bad day. Bring it, 2025

Have a wonderful #ChristmasEve folks. Personally my favourite day of the holidays, with cakes, cookies and other treats to be baked high on my agenda. For those of you working today, especially in front-facing roles like retail and customer services, then here's to as peaceful a day as possible

Well... sh*t. Everyone has an off day. Guess I'm baking a new cake tomorrow then. What a hot mess.

Here's some fun #archaeofashion from #currentarchaeology 128; also a minor mystery. It shows #MortimerWheeler (left); #RaleghRadford (centre); and #KittyRichardson (right). But who is the un-named fourth figure, I presume also an #archaeologist? It's from a field-tour around #Brittany in 1938

Forced myself out for a solstice walk today on the grounds of Christmastide health but honestly, what an incredibly dreich day. This was the most colourful thing I saw the whole way; even the sheep looked fed up. Here's to longer, sunnier days ahead.
