Coaching badges are so expensive and I don’t know how much coaching really helps your CV unless it’s at a high level academy. Showing you have a good tactical knowledge of football is very hard on a CV and writing about it is probably the best way.

Even if it isn’t read when it’s published you can have it on your CV. If a manager receives 100+ CVs for a job and 80 of them have a scientific degree and some programming skills then some previous examples of work usually puts them into the top 10 candidates, even if it’s not groundbreaking.

As Devin said too I don’t know where I would find new public research. Baseball/Basketball/NFL have their own websites/blogs dedicated to research. Twitter used to be that for football analytics but not anymore. Maybe that’s just what a woke/lefty BlueSky user would say though

In terms of public research, there is still so much more to do with event data and there is so much free data available now. Maybe public work is too focused on data viz and not research.

This means:
1. They spend most of their time on daily tasks and being a data interpreter.
2. Their line manager isn’t that data literate so it’s hard to get buy in for long term research projects.
3. Any research is stored in their head and leaves with them (e.g. Ian going from Spurs to Liverpool)

I would say 90% of European clubs probably don’t have much more R&D output/models than what data providers given them. I think this is because probably until the last 3 years, 95% of clubs had one data scientists not a team.
