In it, I argue for the freeze on income tax thresholds to be extended for two years.

This would raise nearly £11.7bn, around half of what the Chancellor needs.

Half of the income would come from the richest fifth of households.

There is speculation the Government might increase the rate of income tax.

They should not.

This would be a clear beach of Labour’s manifesto and it would come with a huge political cost at a challenging time for Labour.
