This one goes out to all the pawpaw fans! Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is a super cool 🌳! Cool leaves, super cool fruit, and even cool tree-rings! This one was about 20 years old, 13.8 cm dbh, and 3m tall.

Visited my dad’s latest woodworking project: pecan (Carya illinoinensis) epoxied bath countertops! 😍 Childhood experiences working with 🪵 & time spent IN the woods primed my interest in #dendrochronology & #ForestEcology. Didn’t stick at first but I came back to my roots 😉

Post oak (Quercus stellata) #TreeRings can be both easy and difficult to work with! Both photos are from the same tree core. Often you have to skip a section and work from one with easier to identify marker years. #Dendro #Dendrochronology 🌳💍💚

Western soapberry (Sapindus saponaria var. drummondii) f/ N. Texas. This cross section came from a 💀branch & has some neat fungal lines (spalting), which are always a cool bonus in #dendrochronology. Soapberry also has one of the coolest fruits. They’re literally soap!

Hercules club/Toothache tree (Zanthoxylum clava-herculis). One of the coolest members of the citrus family (Rutaceae)! Corky tubercles that cover stems remind me of shark 🦈 teeth :) NOT for leaning against, but 100% a tree that inspires the wonder of nature! 🌿

A young Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) with stellate pith (star-shaped center) common with many oak 🌳s.

2nd photo shows the vascular cambium split from primary xylem. Xylem to the inside, phloem to the outside!
