If you know, you know.

The Amstrad CPC had 16 vibrant colours and the end result was ugly. Here's C64 and CPC side by side.

This is mine. Still have it. 🫣

Had this Atari 2600 Darth Vader since 1985. Had to replace the reset switch and got see what's inside. So basic!

Jeri Ellsworth is a of a bit rock star
December 10, 2024 at 11:05 AM
The C64DTV (2004), designed by self taught engineer and high school dropout, Jeri Ellsworth is single-chip ASIC implementation of the Commodore 64. It was designed to support hardware modding - you can add a keyboard, a floppy disk drive effectively turn it into a fully functional C64 system.

It came with a cool Apple /// monitor!

I found an Apple ][ that had been sitting under a leaky open air canopy for 20 years. Picked it up for $40. After a bit of minor fixes, it powered up and I discovered you can load any software from a pc or even a phone!

The keyboard of shame. That one time I melted all my C64's keycaps while trying to clean them.

Was, maybe. Now it's a $4 Raspberry Pi Pico 😀

Worried that your dorky tech all over the place will scare off the ladies? Your old Legos make for a classy Raspberry Pi case. It's art, you see.

Protect your Commodore 64 by upgrading the brick-of-death PSU with a 5v switching wall wart. I used a proper one from an old RPi, but it's still cheaper than buying a fancy new one. Also looks cool.

I couldn't find a snes controller, so I rigged up this one and now it's my go to favourite!

j/k it sucks, but it was fun to figure out and I learned some things

Sometimes a cheap toy from China arrives broken. This was the case with a SNES Everdrive type cart from Ali. I ended up repairing it myself. I won't say it was easy.

just needs one of these
December 7, 2024 at 6:59 PM
Also, you don't need a scart port; I just used RCA connectors.

It looks so good

It is quite easy to modify a CRT television to accept pure RGBS input and basically turn it into an arcade monitor. This is a 29-inch JVC K-Series, running RGB-Pi OS on a Pi 5 (yes!) through and RGB scart connector. Happiness.
