I would look at the 1981 Iris hunger strike by Irish republican prisoners in Northern Ireland. The strike was called off after ten prisoners had starved themselves to death. I would imagine the information you seek can be found there.

Yes, animals a phenomenal device. How characters interact with them can illustrate their loneliness and need for companions or reveal character. Nothing illustrates a character's cruelty greater than kicking a dog. Good or bad, animals can reveals character in your characters.

IMO: no. The practice can stimulate creativity and lead you to write something great. Most times it does not. Find & read some absolute trash that’s somehow been published. Then go and write something better. #RageWriting

Agreed, adding that the pyramids are upside-down in either format. Journalism, starts at the base. prioritizing the most important information followed by less important details to the tip. Novels start with the tip, vague information that expands throughout the book until reaching the base.

No, never... Apostrophes in plural acronyms. Splitting infinitives. Starting a sentence with a conjunction or Ending a sentence with a preposition are no longer rules. What was once “incorrect” is now accepted. Now go break some rules.
