I think I found the answer.

400.6 describes how Darksteel et al. abilities manage to apply when moving from the library. It says that the card's owner looks at it to determine which replacement effects might apply. The card is never revealed, so Grindstone/Palantir/Grist don't know the card.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any old [O] answers from the long ago. Trying to see if I can get someone to dig one out if it exists.

This isn't how I recall Blightsteel interacting with a painter's servant + grindstone situation. Grindstone asks the same question that Palantir does.

These sources aren't citing you, but they are how I recall this works.

Is this canon or reality? Not sure if it's weirder to acknowledge that the physical bouy actually smells good, the folks in charge are good at maintaining the suit, or that its canon that Bouy smells nice.

If I could replay any event, it would be Texas Guildmages #1000, where each attendee got a pre-built draft deck which had won its pod, and month some time in the previous 10 years.

I suspect the Zandi family might still have those decks, if this is intriguing.

This chart should have a log scale.
