I’m not saying the Google algorithm doesn’t understand the severity of the situation, but when I tried to search “George Robertson underprepared” this came up

Was also an early outlet for a mysteriously energetic Davina McCall

Loved Ray Cokes, and as a similar indie kid from the sticks, 120 Minutes with Marijne van der Vlugt (sigh) was essential viewing. My dad hooked up the TV audio feed to the Aux input of our hifi so I made some amazing little cassette compilations, like I’d previously done from the Top 40 on Radio One

…and as with the other two songs, you can also clearly hear his half-arsedness as he rattled off his semi-written demo. His pronunciation of “doing” as “dwing” really rankles with me for some reason

It’s the way Lennon’s vocal is so exposed. By all accounts he used to HATE his vocal sans effects. After cleaning up the tape, couldn’t they have added the kind of treatment he would have liked? I dunno, some variation of Automatic Double Tracking?

I enjoyed @realpaulputner.bsky.social’s comments on this on @chartmusictotp.bsky.social’s excellent bonus episode recently. From a time in the monoculture when you could cover a current pop hit on a family show and EVERYONE would get it… and apparently a moment of real pride for Colin Moulding

Perfect. It ticks all the boxes of all the greatest pre-streaming Greatest Hits: all the singles in the order of release with barely any dip in quality (I believe the kids these days would call that a ‘flex’). Plus, an incentive for anyone who’s already got all the albums: the majestic Popscene.

My favourite hits radio station has a feature on the breakfast show where listeners are asked to suggest songs relating to a theme of the day. When the theme was “rap”, the suggestions that the DJ read out - with a completely straight face - were: ‘Rapture’, ‘Chant No.1’ and ‘World in Motion’

I’ll forward on the PDF. You won’t have to talk to me! (Please don’t, I’m crap at small talk, just take the ticket and have a good evening 🙂)

The above sounds mealy mouthed, but it’s all to do with when the music hits you. If #Suede had lived their career in reverse I’d be “Animal Lover is good but it’s no Dancing With the Europeans is it?”

Honestly #Antidepressants is astonishing. Any new Suede album can only ever be my third favourite given the very special place the debut and Dog Man Star held in my heart at the ages of 17 and 19 respectively. But to say it beats Coming Up given the place THAT held in my heart… now that is something

Arthur Lee’s Love, playing Forever Changes in its entirety, backed with strings and horns, were sensational, so shove it Richard Osman 🧐

I was there! Except I wasn’t. Suede were playing while I was traversing the Pyramid field and I didn’t stop 😐 I’d been so passionate about them just a few years previously. It would take post-comeback to reignite that passion
