He/ Him

I play a lot of magic the gathering with my friends, mostly cube. I run a California cube event also!
My most common non-aggro deck I play! I call it Temur trash myself because of how often I trick myself into playing a RUG where the cards just have it out to get me haha

Lol due to technical issues/ Ollie complaints, they took it down and replaced it with normal vintage cube again

Not at all! Please come to them and meet the many friendly folks (like me) that run them or play at them!

Nice! Reminds me a bit of @goblingathering.bsky.social 's mono white 3-0 when we played it online. I miss being there this year, hope you continue to have a great time!

This year, CubeCon is raising money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of our dear friend Jonathan Brostoff, who we tragically lost 1 year ago. Please consider tuning in and donating to this important cause.

I rallied my California Cube Champs people hard behind the one that is from nearish us and had been at our event, the Salt n Pauper cube, but Mengu has been a huge player in professional and mtgo magic for a decade+ so it's hard to beat that

Maybe I and everyone else is misunderstanding you then, but I'm saying that in my experience there is both a growing cube community for these events and a growing variety of cubes that are popular. Mengu's cube winning a mtgo poll isn't proof enough for me that all non vintage Cube is dead

Lol, I strongly disagree with this. I ran a 120+ player event two weekends ago dedicated to cubes and there were 18 cubes we ran, zero of which were traditional vintage cubes. Multiple of the cubes had major Singleton breaks, some had rules changes, etc. MTGO is fun, but it is heavily biased by LSV

I'm glad you enjoyed my contribution! I was definitely a bit fried when making that episode. I do think that the view you have of wanting balanced gameplay and skill based stuff, is definitely the prevalent view among creators like yourself, LPR etc. Happy to discuss more at length if you want!

We also had FIVE different people go undefeated in both of their drafts, including @hardcasting.bsky.social winning at the Okk Corral and then the Urza's saga cube, and after two years with a top 8 with a ton of Seattle players, and two Seattle based champions, these 5 are all from the bay area!

Absolutely love this little guy and strongly doubt that it deserved the cut tbh

I love coin flips in my magic -

So I played 5 rounds with 9 lands, and won 4 of them, including one where I never played a second land by turn 5 when the game ended. Truly an amazing night that made me feel so happy with the other 9 friends that came out and talked about everything from Tolstoy to Cardi B in addition to the magic

We drafted a cube with only green and red cards, currently named the Grube, and I ended up in a very low curving mono red deck. I joked while making cuts that I could run a single digit number of lands, and one of my friends dared me to.

I had a rough day with depression and work, but a glass of port, free pizza from a friend who works at a bakery, poorly made mojitos that I ran across the street to grab mint from a neighbor mid draft (after p2 but before Pack3), and ice cream for the table were a big part of making me feel better.
