Will the event be dog-friendly? Service animals covered by the ADA are of course welcome. Other animals, including dogs, are not permitted.

Will the event be child-friendly? We would love to see some junior scientists! We will have a few small activities for children. Please keep in mind that the rally will include chanting and a lot of people. You know your child best and what their needs are. Might consider noise reducing headphones.

Can I bring food? Food and beverages are not permitted on Capitol grounds. We will have small snacks and beverages off site, which may be consumed off site.

What else should I bring? Most will bring signs, but we will also have signs if you forget.

What will accessibility look like? We will have several chairs for those who would like to sit, rather than stand. We are currently searching for ASL interpreters for the speakers. Please reach out to us if you would like an interpreter or if you have any other accessibility concerns.

Who will the speakers be? Still confirming-planning on speakers across scientific fields.

Do I have to stay the whole time? You may come and go as you like during the 12-3pm window.

Where to park: Not permitted to park in the Capitol parking lots. There is street parking throughout the area.

We will have several speakers across scientific fields who will briefly express how the attacks on federal funding, DEIA, and higher education have impacted them.

Speakers will begin at 12:30pm and will speak for 3 to 5 minutes every ~20 minutes.

What will happen at the event? This is a peaceful demonstration. It serves as a call to action for our representatives to protect publicly funded science from political interference and to reaffirm that diversity, equity, inclusion, and access are essential to scientific progress.

When: March 7 12pm-3pm

Where: South Lawn and Steps of the Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City. The Capitol is located at 201 W Capitol Ave and the South Lawn and Steps are at the intersection of Broadway St and W. High Street. This is an OUTDOOR event to promote visibility.
