All cities need more nature, walking, bicycling, and public transit and less cars.
I've tried all the car share programs and, at least in SF, it was hands-down the best: best prices, incredible option of cars, lots of reserved parking, good customer support, and lots of ways to give feedback to car owners and the company. Their absence is a big loss for reducing cars.

This is really crappy news and upends a way of life that has worked great for us for a decade. I'm also amazed at how few people in the car-free/lite world talk about Getaround. It seems to fill such a huge gap in our transport system but clearly wasn't used as much as it could be.

There's Turo, but their selection is a fraction of Getaround's, at least in SF. There's traditional rental car companies, but those are a huge pain (terrible counter hours) and more expensive nor do they have the options that Getaround does (like AWD for winter in Tahoe). Same for Zipcar.

It's a real shame how hard it is to live car-free in this country. We need a car for occasional travel soccer games, weekend trips to Tahoe or hiking, etc and there is no way that is feasible for us without Getaround (or owning a car).
