Had a great time at the Sunshine Coast National Art Prize!

I didn't take home any prizes, although it turns out I was 4 votes off the winner of People's Choice - its both nice to know I almost hit popular vote & will haunt me forever 😂

I left the house & wore a cute outfit, so I think I won!

In very exciting news, I am delighted to be one of the finalists in this year's Sunshine Coast National Art Prize held by the Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Patient 46 will be in good company, I am so excited to see multiple other wonderful textiles pieces among the excellent finalists!

Welp, my big skele didn't get into the textiles art prize finals. It's a bit of a bummer, but luckily I dont base my self worth on how art prizes work out 😂 I know it's a great piece, & it wouldn't have evolved into as impressive a piece as it is if I didn't intend to enter it, so its still a win!

Patient 46, Adult Female, Age 38 is life lived with multiple chronic illnesses and conditions. They are parasitic, feeding on your energy and ability to function, causing you pain and slowly taking you over.
Linework hand embroidery of a human skeleton done with heavy black outlines to resemble a scientific illustration. Fig 1 is written at the top and there are straight lines coming out from it at the sides that label it with different illnesses. Some of the labels are just question marks. The labels lead to mushrooms growing from the skeleton. On the skeleton there are multiple patches of greyscale colouring which spread out from the mushrooms. There are 26 patches of mushrooms shown, and some are identical. On the top left of the skull a patch of three mushrooms are teal with lighter teal spots, in the centre top of the skull is a single green mushroom with fluro green slime dripping from it, and on the top right of the skull a patch of three mushroom are varying shades of red. There is an orange mushroom growing from the left eyesocket, and two small, pink mushrooms growing under the right eyesocket. A cluster of 5 purple mushrooms is growing from the right side of the neck, and a matching cluster grows on the left shoulder. There are fat, green mushrooms growing between the left shoulder and up the neck. There are groups of different kinds of mushrooms growing on the shoulders, ribs, under the ribcage, on the elbows, on the hips and on the pelvis. The small mushrooms in the ribcage are pink. The large cluster of mushrooms growing from the pelvis is bright yellow, and the patch of 3 spotty mushrooms growing from the right top of the pelvis, the left hip and the right thigh are green. In the centre of both thighs and lower arms there are large patches of blue fan-like mushrooms, and the same purple mushrooms seen above grow from both knees and elbows. So close, yet so far! Skele is just missing half her arms, a few mushrooms and grey patches and a bunch of text. Approx 3 weeks til it needs to be done to give me time to wash, mount, frame, photograph and submit. It's.........doable 👀

New skele update! Ya girl has FINALLY finished the second pattern piece and has almost hit 200 hours work on this big fella! I thought you all might enjoy how amusingly too small it looks for the background 😂 I SWEAR it has been sized correctly gang...I swear...It should move along a bit faster now!

Got the first page finished last night before packing it up to head home from the parents' today!

I got 33 hours of embroidery done over the past week while visiting (a relaxing xmas break 😂), so this first page has tipped over to 90 hours 🙃

I took a quick snap of this before I stuffed it into my luggage to stay at my parents for a week. I didn't want to dismantle the frame & it just fit in my medium sized suitcase 😬

It's taking much longer than I hoped - I should be past this page by now! 57 hours so far, in case you are wondering...

I'm 25 hours into this beast of a project & making pretty good progress! All of the skele linework for the first pattern piece is done, and all of the Creeping Grey is done for the skull now! Still the Creeping Grey to go on the neck & shoulders, & all the mushies, before we can move on to page 2!

I hear it's International Day of People with Disabilities #IDPWD which is very cool and fun because my body has been actively trying to ruin my life more than usual in the past month. Fatigue flare, yes, but pain flares YES. New ones too! Gotta keep me guessing 😂

Prepping for my next big competition piece! Yes, those are A4 size pieces of paper. Yes, I have measured out this skeleton to be exactly half my size. Yes, I do have a deadline of 3 months to work on this. No, I don't know why I'm like this 😂
