After many years of dedicated writing about careers for university researchers, I’m pleased to announce that I’m going to be expanding the scope of my writing, to cover careers issues more generally.

As workers outside of higher education can face similar careers challenges, let’s help them too!

I enjoyed attending Trowbridge Jobs Fair yesterday! It was really interesting to see which organisations are currently hiring, and learn more about the free training that’s on offer, to help people break into the tech and creative sectors.

I’ve just completed 2 chapters for an edited book collection, to help #PhDs transition from academia to industry.

The chapters are on:
(1) Unlocking the hidden job market; and
(2) Building a network of professional contacts outside of academia.

As they near the completion of their PhDs, many researchers will be asking themselves, what jobs does a PhD qualify me for?

Interestingly, in the job market outside of academia, it’s your transferable skills and personality that count, as well as your #PhD.
