6/ A forest is not a small thing to restore, a fast thing to restore, or an easy thing to restore. It’s not something that can be put back exactly the same way. Neither is a nation. But don’t let the thought that it will never be the same distract you from the belief that we can make it work again.

4/ Right now our country is all mudflows and cinders as far as the eye can see. It can be hard to catch a glimpse through the falling embers to a time when we might possibly be able to rebuild.
Try to get people out of harm’s way. Fight the fires you can. Grab what you can.

3/ They didn’t all agree on what the forest should be, and they didn’t all work together on it, but they worked toward reforestation.
It didn’t happen overnight. It’s not the same forest it was before. But it is a forest. It’s a functional forest. And it continues to grow toward what it can be.
