You don't even understand the basic mission.
It wasn't to transform Trump into a nice fella and reliable partner. It was to distract him with a shiny trinket, appeal to his vanity with "you're close to 'historic', don't fk it up by trusting Putin," keep him on side and gain time for Europe/Ukraine.

The UK did not jail people last summer for 'expressing their opinions'. It jailed people for inciting violence and racial hatred, which no democracy could tolerate.
