That's not at all what's happening on the ground here. Fed law enforcement is acting in far more aggressive ways than in the past. As a resident, the troops are more philosophically problematic but the feds are doing more harm.

Yes fed law enforcement is always here but they have deployed in meaningfully different and far more aggressive ways during the surge/occupation. I'm not making a legal argument as to their presence but descriptively this is not business as usual or just "enhancement" as Mayor is calling it.

Sunday evening witnessed armored vehicles, camo agents, long guns and auto weapons used to supposedly execute a warrant down the block. I've lived here 15+ years, seen plenty of law enforcement activity, but never like this. Shocking to hear this deemed mere "enhancement" of normal MPD activity.

The "federal v local" tension is sometimes of interest. Looking at this closure in that light is simply obscuring the animosity that is the guiding force here.

This "federal v local city" framing of the closure of Dupont for Pride is completed detached from what this admin is doing here, now. Who are these "all Americans" you think are crying out for the closure of Dupont Circle during WORLD PRIDE (and why aren't the USians attending part of that "all"?
