Success! Sort of ... eventually the moon rose above the clouds and although the eclipse wasn't total, it was cool.

Can confirm the Vieux Quimper is excellent and Nantes is marvellous. Hoping I won't waste another quarter of a century before returning again, a day wasn't enough to see everything I wanted to.

Today was a good day. In 20+ years rowing on the Tideway, I've never been to Tower Bridge; today, we took five women's eights down there. It was epic.

This morning was just glorious. Sightseeing row to Westminster (well, I drove a launch).

A morning at @wwtworldwide.bsky.social London today - they opened early for members so it was quiet and the light was nice.

Had a nice trip to Yorkshire this week to catch up with the parents, take in some sea air in Whitby and the delights of our little bit of God's Own.

3) Free stuff is good too and I enjoyed the Wellcome Collection's exhibit of how work affects health, albeit I was beginning to be museumed out.

2) The British Library's exhibitions are always superb & the current Medieval Women exhibition is an amazing lens into the varied lives of medieval women from all backgrounds. Most of those visiting seemed to be female, but one man was insisting on explaining stuff in a loud voice to his companion.

Observations from a day out being cultural in London:
1) Silk Roads exhibition at the British Museum is excellent but way way too busy even on a Wednesday morning. And people read very slowly (or I read very fast) so waiting for others to finish reading each exhibit's blurb can be a mite frustrating

My grandad's Army blanket. The red wool detail on the hem is a bit frayed but it still has his initials on it and it still keeps me toasty on cold evenings. Must be at least 80 years old now. He served in North Africa in WW2.

Perhaps controversial opinion: there are plenty more impressive sights in sport than an exceptional darts player. Mondo Duplantis soaring over a pole, Camilla Herrem on a fast break in handball, Mikaela Shiffrin zooming down a slope ...

Foggy Boxing Day walk around Castle Howard was atmospheric, even if there were no views.

Phone photos as I didn't bring my decent camera up north for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

There's lots of squirrels round my place and they enjoy running up and down everyone's balconies. This morning I had a little visitor, who found a crust of bread that had randomly landed in my rosemary, and spent a while sitting on the rail munching away. I know they're pests, but they're so cute.

At home I love a @zwiftrides.bsky.social. I'm away with work so I ran the Innsbruckring circuit (more or less) this morning as hotel gym bike is hopeless. Was actually quite fun and weirdly familiar!

Had this once before at Munich. Not set up for large numbers of non-EU passport holders. Apparently not a one-off. 😬

One of my favourite London places is the Wetland Centre in Barnes - I went for the first time just under two years ago, promptly joined, and now go back a few times every year to practise photography, chill out and look at birds. Here's some photos from Friday's mooch!

The Wandsworth Cycling Campaign (not yet here) is organising a protest and vigil on Saturday 23 November at 1:30pm to remember the young man killed recently while cycling in Putney, and to call for action to ensure such tragedies stop 🚴‍♂️💐
Everyone is invited to join. Corner of West Hill/Lytton Grove

There are worse things. Thank you.

Here's a picture of my bike on the King Alfred's Way last year!!
