Every year, ~7 billion male chicks are ground up or gassed on their first day of life.
Why? They can’t lay eggs and aren’t profitable for meat.
This is standard practice in the egg industry.

In total, livestock and feed make up 85% of the UK's total land use for agriculture. When we talk about livestock’s impact on climate, it’s usually about methane (or “cow farts”), but meat production also relies heavily on fertilisers that are fossil fuel-based, emit GHGs, & drive deforestation.
