Years ago I was in Norway, without the adequate finances to keep yourself entertained in Norway. So I took the 9 hour bus from Bergen to Lillehammer, which was spectacular! This is the service stop, somewhere up in the mountains.

27 Nov 71 The journey by Trans Europe Express was lovely... We took some wine and, rare for me, a whiskey. We had a second half bottle in our seats. The various TEEs must be the most successful trains in the world - I have never seen an empty seat.

I grew up in Birmingham, dependent on buses. Public transport allows for a relationship with a city you don't get with car travel. I knew Birmingham inside out, warts and all, and always had an anecdote!
Recently, with UK train travel being what it is, I've been opting for coach travel. The time it takes can be off-putting for some but I enjoy planning how to spend that time; what book to read, what film to watch, what to write or draw. Here's to more coach options! www.timeout.com/uk/news/affo...
