Sheesh. Didn’t know that I was quoting Reagan. Frigg!

Haven’t been watching but I thought I was the only one who said ‘bedtime for bonzos’ and I have no clue why I say this! Might be an Americanism like ‘mixum gatherum’. I shall just go look it up.

I didn’t know that. When I was young I was a keen birdwatcher/ornithologist.We took many things for granted. Curlews were just there. Lapwings/fieldfares/redwings were common in the west.I miss that living in the east. We have lots of goldfinches tho.Charms of them!I dunno if that’s a good thing?

I have friends in Erris so I keep a close eye on their progress. I’m so sad about the fate of the curlew though. I think there may be a few in the Booterstown marsh tho? I work around there and am sure I can hear that call or am imagining it?

As for Crex crex. What a privilege to hear that. I think I only heard it once in North Galway. My late father who mourned their decline lamented that when were plentiful that he cursed them for keeping awake at night.

Lovely. I am reminded of that drumming sound of the snipe when I was a young child. It was a bit spooky. This was rural west of Ireland in the 70s. Probably not as widespread anymore?we didn’t see them much until dusk.

It really does feel like ‘getting the band back together’ ! Long may it last.

Not long in the door before you! It’s so nice compared to that other place.

The clouds tonight are amazing. Bad photo I’m afraid.

One of my favourite sounds. They were so plentiful when I was young. Lapwings too.

Fascinating. Some really odd variations of the hammer and sickle. Notice that both France and Algeria are a flip with the sickle on the left. And what’s going on in Hungary ? It’s like a bbq set! lol

Only just joined too but don’t think I’m too late to the party. I’m seeing posts from people I used to follow over there that I haven’t seen in ages. Nice to see you here too.
