Don Norman, a visionary designer, strongly dislikes vague solutions. Users need a basic understanding of what's happening. Although most can't decipher error logs, they should at least be informed with messages like "there was a connection error" or "our servers are experiencing issues."
Few things on computers enrage me more than this. Tell me what's wrong and what I might do about it, don't act all cute and put your pinky to your lips. Be a professional for once.
